Manufacturing
and Municipal Activity
Long
Island Compost is an integral member of Long Island's
dwindling manufacturing base, as it manages every aspect
of the production and packaging of its popular Hampton
Estates organic soil products.
Each
year, the company is responsible for manufacturing more
than 5 million bags of soil products that go directly
back into the Long Island marketplace. By creating the
product on Long Island and distributing it through hundreds
of local garden and home centers, Long Island Compost:
- Eliminates thousands of interstate
trucking trips
- Keeps costs down for Long Islanders
by supplying a product that is more competitively
priced than the national brands.
Municipal Activity
Municipalities throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties
have come to depend on Long Island Compost as a trusted
partner in the disposal of organic materials and remediation
of polluted sites. Town governments know they can turn
to Long Island Compost
for a host of environmental services
and cost effective solutions.
Town
of Brookhaven: Long Island Compost is able to save
taxpayers in Brookhaven hundreds of thousands of dollars
a year by keeping organic materials out of the Town
of Brookhaven incinerator and recycling the organic
material through composting. Additionally, the arrangement
with Brookhaven reduces odors at the Town landfill and
represents the most environmentally responsible way
to recycle Town of Brookhaven's sizeable quantity of
landscape-related waste.
Town
of Oyster Bay: As in other municipalities, Long
Island Compost assists Town of Oyster Bay by making
it possible for the Town to meet recycling standards.
In addition to saving Town residents at least a quarter
million dollars a year, Long Island Compost enables
Town of Oyster Bay to dispose of its yard waste and
enjoy the environmental benefits of recycling.
Other
Municipalities: Whether it's working with Town of
Hempstead to set up a Town-wide recycling program that
won New York State approval or keeping 200,000 tons
a year of organic waste out of local incinerators, Long
Island Compost continues to play a vital role in townships
across Nassau and Suffolk Counties by saving taxpayers
money and addressing a problem that most municipalities
are not equipped to handle.
